Brar was also the Governor of Haryana and Orissa in his illustrious political career. He is survived by his wife and two children including K S Brar, who is an MLA. Brar was sworn-in chief minister of Punjab on August 31, 1995 after the incumbent Beant Singh was killed in a bomb blast outside the state government secretariat here.
The Punjab government has declared a three-day mourning to pay homage to the former chief minister. Punjab Governor, Gen S F Rodrigues (retd) and Chief Minister P S Badal have condoled the death of Brar.
