Last Updated 29 March 2012, 18:09 IST

Demanding permanent irrigation facility to the district, farmers from Kolar Gold Fields under the leadership of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike and KGF Urban Development Authority former chairman K Munirathnam Naidu took out a bike rally from KGF to Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday.

The Kolar district is reeling under severe drought and there is acute drinking water crisis in Bangarpet taluk. Farmers are finding it difficult find feed for their cattle. Lack of proper resources has left the farmers in lurch. They are now migrating to urban areas to do menial job, they observed. They wanted the government to evolve a permanent solution to the district farmers.

They have urged the government to implement Dr Paramashivaiah Report to address water crisis in the district. They threatened to intensify their protest, if the government fails to respond to their demands.

They later submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar, who promised to forward their appeal to the higher authorities.
