Last Updated 31 March 2012, 17:15 IST

Taking cognisance of burgeoning traffic, the authority has thought it’s time to go for local train, improve the existing roads and also educate the road users on how to make use of it for a safe journey.

The first and foremost, mono or metro rail is on the cards in addition to existing public transport system. Though it’s one of the long pending programmes with MUDA earmarking a certain amount to take up feasibility study, this budget too it finds a mention with Rs 10 lakh set aside to prepare an action plan. It will concentrate mainly on connecting the tourist spots, again taking into count the increasing number of tourists descending on the city.

Big plans

Flyovers have been planned on outer-ring-roads (ORR), to decrease the burden on city roads. The ORR on Mysore- Bangalore road, near Columbia Asia Hospital, KRS road near Hotel Royal Inn junction, Mysore- Hunsur road near Hinkal,  and Mysore- Nanjangud road near APMC, have been identified for the flyovers, to be constructed under public-private-participation (PPP) model. The authority has set aside Rs 100 lakh for the very project.

Not to forget the roads connecting different localities, as many as 11 roads are in for development.  A stretch of four km of JLB road from Ramaswamy Circle to the foot of Chamundi Hill will be developed at the cost of Rs 300 lakh, followed by converting the existing one km of road connecting K D circle to ring road in the second stage of Vijayanagar as double road, at the cost of Rs 80 lakh.

The existing 1.5 km of Adhichunchanagiri road from the Apollo BGS hospitals circle to Vivekananda Nagar circle will also be converted into a double road at the cost of Rs 1.50 lakh. The  first main road of Metagalli extension spread up to 0.8 km  will be developed at the cost of Rs 40 lakh followed by Valmiki road connecting Hunsur road to KRS road at the cost of Rs 80 lakh.

Connecting road

A connecting road will be laid between Maramma temple behind Lingambudhi lake and ring road at the cost of Rs 70 lakh and the 1.80 km of road from Dr Rajkumar circle (Gilani Petrol Bunk circle) to  Azeez Sait double road (Mahadevapura road) will be widened at the cost of Rs 50 lakh.

The road between Chatrimara and Shantaveri Gopalgowda Circle and Matrumandali Circle to Sri Ramamandira Kalyana Mantapa in Vontikoppal will also be widened.

Traffic park

To educate people on traffic, an exclusive park will be constructed at a park in K C layout on Lalitha Mahal road. The park will be constructed, operated and maintained by the police department, while MUDA will extend financial aid of Rs 20 lakh to create basic amenities like podium and light arrangements.
