The delegation comprising PR Ramesh, Vijay Kumar, Mumtaz Begum, Huchchappa, Simha and Ramachandrappa, called on Governor Rameshwar Thakur at Raj Bhavan and told him that the government’s move is intended at pushing the Palike elections for another few months. Ramesh and other former mayors told reporters later that the government cannot hold polls before July 31, the deadline set by the Karnataka High Court for the government.

“If the government wants to increase the number of wards it will have to issue a fresh notification. Objections will be called for and at least 15 days will be required. Then the government will have to issue final notification, and reservations have to be done. This will take another 15 days. Poll preparations require at least 45 - 60 days. The government will need at least five months to hold the polls, and will not be able to meet the deadline fixed by the HC,” Ramesh said. The former mayors said the Governor had taken the issues raised seriously.
