Exclusive library for kids in city soon

A housewife jostling between various day to day chores at home thought of a unique, innovative and a nobel concept of opening an exclusive library for children.

This thought has been made tangible and will be offered soon to children under in the form of ‘Chrysalis Children’s Library’.

The brain behind this concept is Rakhee Raveendran who has at present more than 10,000 books for the kids in the age group of one to 17 years. Internet cafe, specialty book store and lending toy library are the other features of Chrysalis.

Rakhee said that Chrysalis has to its credit the fame of being the first library exclusively for children. In the library, she says, the books have been categorised as per the age group.

“We have basic pictures and board books arranged for babies, word books for  toddlers and chapter books for boys and girls up to 17 years,” she said.

Toys

With the motto of transforming little ones into creative thinkers, Chrysalis also has provision for lending toys for a period of a month of more.

There is a huge range of toys used to educate childen. Kidzoom digital camera and Leap Frog writing guide are some of the modern educational toys available in the library.

“Atractive imagination, motivation from within and from those around and having access to the necessary resources are the three ingredients necessary to enhance creativity in kids.

We provide those three ingredients in our library through books, programs and environment,” she said and adding that the library also will have other activities to promote learning through fun.

The library charges Rs 150 per month per children as membership to lend four books at a time for one day. Meanwhile Rs 750 will be collected from each member as a refundable caution deposit.

The library will be inaugurated and its website will be launched at Kodialbail here on April 8.
