In a tragic early morning incident on Saturday an eleven-year-old girl was killed and three members of a family, including two minors, were injured when their motorcycle was rammed by a tractor carrying a water tank at Aman Vihar in outer Delhi.

The deceased has been identified as Gayatri. Those injured include Kuldeep, 18, and his sisters Pooja, 12, and Sangeeta, 9. The accident took place around 7:30 am when Kuldeep was going to drop his sisters to their school in Aman Vihar.

“He had also picked Pooja’s classmate Gayatri, who lived in the neighbourhood. All four were on a motorcycle when a tractor hit them. Gayatri sustained critical injuries as she came under the wheels of the tractor,” a police official said.

On receiving information, the police reached the spot and rushed the accident victims to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where Gayatri was declared brought dead. “Sangeeta was discharged in the afternoon, but Kuldeep and Pooja are admitted in the intensive care unit of the hospital,” the official added.

The police have arrested tractor driver Mohammad Shamin and booked him under IPC Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence).

A close relative of Gayatri said usually the 11-year-old’s father used to take her to school, but on Saturday, Kuldeep had offered to drop her.

“As he was going to drop his sisters, we sent our girl on his motorcycle. Had we not sent her, she would have been alive,” the relative said.

The accident triggered a riot-like situation in Aman Vihar, as locals took to stone pelting and vandalised the tractor. The police had to resort to lathicharge and fire tear gas shells to control the mob.
