Six more convicted in Kandhamal riots case

All six have been awarded four years’ imprisonment besides a fine of Rs 2,000 each. The court, however, has let off five other accused because of lack of evidence.
With this fresh conviction, the number of convicted persons in connection with the riots has gone up to 11 so far.

Meanwhile, the Kandhamal police arrested two more persons on Tuesday in connection with the riots. Police source said the two had been absconding since long. More than 800 people have  been taken into the custody

The Hindu-Christian communal riots in the backward Orissa district last year, which were triggered by the killing of religious leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, had claimed more than 40 lives besides rendering thousands homeless.
