Last Updated 08 September 2009, 18:48 IST

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, the seer said that he is yet to test the claims that gas-based power project is eco-friendly.
“The question of opposing the project will not arise at all if it is eco-friendly. If not, struggle against the project will be intensified,” he said.

Referring to the Energy Minister’s statements that the State will be made self-reliant in power generation by five years, the seer said, “Our vision should not be limited for five years but the well-being of the nature and the entire mankind should be considered.”
The seer said that no power project is eco-friendly. Even the technology to produce bricks and blocks from fly ash of thermal power project is not foolproof.
Governments should promote the use of renewable sources of energy like solar and wind, the Swarnavalli seer added.
