Free transport for vegetable growers

APMC and Sugar Minister Shivaraj Thangadagi told reporters that to begin with, transport services will be provided to vegetable growers in  Doddaballapur, Kolar and Gulbarga. “We hope the transport facility will help in weeding out the menace of middlemen. Depending on the response, the facility will be extended to other parts of the State,” Thangadagi said. Designated routes will be finalised to pick up the farmers and drop them back.

The department has received Rs 10 crore grants from Nabard, which will be used for conducting Raitha santhe and construction of godowns. Godowns for storing maize would be constructed at Davangere, Gangavathi, Gulbarga, while arecanut godowns will come up at Shimoga and Mangalore. Exclusive godowns for storing paddy will be built at Raichur and Koppal.
All APMCs have been asked to chalk out an action plan and work out the subsidies that they could receive from the Centre, Thangadagi said.
