Traffic awareness: Yezdi park unused; MUDA wants one more

First of its kind in State, it was brain child of F K Irani of Jawa fame

The traffic of the city was still in its nascent stage when an industrialist joined hands with  the civic body to create traffic awareness among road users.

It’s already 31 years for the park, and it still stands as a place to recline for waywards in the heart of the city.

Named Ideal Jawa Children’s Traffic Park, it’s located opposite the office of police commissioner.

F K Irani of Ideal Jawa collaborated with then Nagara Sabhe to dedicate the park in September 1981.

The then Chief Minister R Gundurao had inaugurated the facility.

The uniqueness of the park, also a first of its kind in the State is the miniature buildings of types constructed to recreate a city set up with roads and different traffic sign boards. Railway Station,
Temple, Mosque, Cinema theatre and all other facilities a city has to offer its residents were replicated here.

The park spread on two acres of land was supposed to be the centre of activities with police turning it a perfect classroom for the younger lot.

Instead, the police are going to schools to screen slides on traffic awareness.

Recently, MCC developed the right portion of the park, to uplift the beauty of the same. Nearly Rs  three lakh to Rs four lakh from MLA’s local area development fund was spent on the same laying a lawn and also planting saplings.

While the very park still awaits to tell the meaning of its existence, here comes another proposal from Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to develop a traffic park at K C Layout.

The layout situated on Chamundi Hill road is just a kilometre away from the existing park.

MUDA Commissioner C J Betsurmath told Deccan Herald, the park will be uniquely developed. His reaction was typical, when it was brought to his notice that another uniquely developed park on the same theme is still waiting to tell its significance to the world.
