He fractured his leg to save others' lives

Bus driver averts major mishap on city road

Alert driver of a KSRTC bus suffered fracture in his leg saving many a lives, in a mishap that occurred on Lalitha Mahal road in the city on Thursday.

Sharanappa Hadapad, 30, who suffered fracture in his right leg is admitted at a private hospital in the city.

The bus route number 232 was returning to rural bus stand from Thayur in the taluk.
Quoting the driver’s complaint, Lashkar traffic police told Deccan Herald, he saw a two-wheeler coming from opposite direction skidding in the middle of the road, when their attempts to overtake a car went near fatal.

The bus was moving in the speed of 40 km to 45 km and sudden apply of brakes too could not help check the speed. He thought it wise to turn the steering to his left and rammed to the archgate of Lalitha Mahal Hotel, also a heritage structure, bringing the vehicle to a halt.

One of the two youths on the motorcycle identified as Manjunath of Bhugatahalli suffered bruises. The duo took to heels after abandoning the vehicle.

Apart from the driver, three passengers were also injured in the mishap. They are Jayaram, Shobha and Madamma.

Police said, had not the driver acted swiftly, there were chances of fatalities, and was in all praise of the driver. Similar was the reaction from eyewitnesses, the investigators added.

Unlike other cases where heavy vehicles will be booked in mishaps involving two-wheelers on humanity grounds, the police have booked a case against two-wheeler in this case, for rash and negligent driving.
