This was disclosed on Friday by the minister Shobha Karandlaje who also holds the portfolio of food and civil supplies, at the laying of foundation for the office building of Weights and Measures Department at Srirampura in the city.
The minister said that she has instructed the officers of weights and measures to give women SHGs and stree shakti sanghas information pertaining to the facilities offered and also create awareness among school and college students.
The department was unheard of lacking own roof in 19 districts including Mysore. It was a neglected department and efforts are being made to tell the people about its very existence and significance.
The office space intended to be build on a CA site allotted by MUDA will also have a laboratory facility.
The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) is entrusted with the task of constructing the building.
Deputy Controller of Legal Metrology M Gururaj and other officers were present.
