CM has sanctioned 20 crore for concreting MG Road: MLA

Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 20 crore for concreting Mahatma Gandhi road in Chikmagalur town, said MLA C T Ravi.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday, he said that he has directed the Nirmithi Kendra and Land Army Corporation to come out with the estimated cost of the project. There are plans to fix granite stones to the footpath on MG Road. In another development, Kuvempu University Vice-chancellor has agreed to allot 20 acre for constructing post graduation centre in Chikmagalur, he said.

Giving details about the rank list of IDSG College of which C T Ravi is the Development Committee President, he said that the PG centre of the college has bagged five ranks and degree college has secured two ranks.

“Navin Kumar has bagged II rank in Kannada MA, Thapaswi-II rank in English MA, Najiya Thabasam-II rank in Chemistry, Shruthi-VI rank in Kannada MA, Madhu Kumar-IX rank in Economics , while Ariya Tausin has bagged VII rank and Sowmya has recived VIII rank in BSc,” he informed.

The pass percentage in BSc is 96, 85 per cent in B.Com, 77 per cent in BA and 65 per cent in BBM. The lecturers have been appointed for each subject and the college has 47 permanent lecturers and 75 guest lecturers. The college which was started in 1948 and has the students strength of 2,530.

The college has of 29 class rooms and the classes are held in two different timings. A few batches will have classes from morning till the afternoon and the rest will have the class from afternoon till evening. This method is followed to overcome the problem of shortage of classrooms.

 The MLA informed that the CM has agreed in principle to release fund for the development of the college. Rs 6.5 crore was released for the college during the last few years which has been used for the development of PG and UG buildings.

The fund has been used for the construction of toilets, rest room for lecturers, overhead tank, water tank and pipeline. As many as seven Group D staff have been recruited and one room has been built for the English Department.
