KEA counselling at M'lore, Davangere

CET 2010 to be held in five cities

At a meeting convened by the Higher Education Minister with Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA)on Wednesday, the Board has decided that the seat selection process for professional courses will be held in Davangere and Mangalore apart from the other three cities.

 It may be recalled that CET 2009 counselling was held at Hubli and Gulbarga for the benefit of students. A S Srikanth, Secretary, Higher Education said that National Information Centre (NIC) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have been roped in to conduct the counselling process at Mangalore and Davangere.
“The two districts were chosen for the benefit of students from coastal and north Karnataka. The procedures followed in the counselling sessions at Hubli and Gulbarga  will be applied for the next sessions too. Counselling at the two districts will save time and money  of students and parents,” the secretary said.

Coaching for rural students
The much-awaited proposal to provide CET coaching for rural students was also cleared in the meeting. The coaching will conducted at five zones across the State accessible to all needy students.
“The modalities of coaching and the zones to be conducted will be decided by KEA. A detailed report on the proposal will be submitted to the government in 15 days” Srikanth said.

The Board has also agreed in principle to confirm the temporary employees at KEA who worked on contract with the authority.
Srikanth said, “We have asked the KEA to prepare the the manpower assistance regarding the contract and temporary workers to be submitted in 15 days to the govern- ment. Based on the report the details will be worked out.” The Board has also agreed to communicate with the Council of Architecture regarding excess intake of 20 B Arch students in MSRIT allotted by the KEA.
