AP seeks Rs 4,000 cr to combat drought

 The entire Andhra Pradesh state barring two districts has been declared drought affected following a 32 per cetn deficit of rainfall. 971 mandals (blocks) in 21 of the 23 districts have been declared as drought hit.

Announcing this here on Wednesday Chief Minister K Rosaiah said the government had sought Rs 4000 crore assistance from the Centre drought relief work.The relief work will include rural development works in the affected areas. As part of relief for farmers, input subsidy will be given for crops damaged 50 per cent or more due to drought.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah said the state government has already initiated several relief measures to mitigate the sufferings of the people in the drought-hit areas.
