MI keen to build on Mohali win

Mumbai Indians’ mentor and coach Shaun Pollock said his batsmen are motivated to do well against the Delhi Daredevils in the league match at Ferozeshah Kotla on Friday.

The Mumbai Indians were handed a seven-wicket loss by Daredevils at their home ground and Pollock on Thursday felt it was a good enough reason for his side to strike back. “The batsmen are motivated to do well here. The way we played at home against Daredevils, we have a reason to do well here,” Pollock told reporters on the eve of the match.

The team is high on confidence after their thrilling victory over Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday and Pollock hoped it will be able to carry their momentum against Daredevils. "This kind of performance boosts the confidence and also help gain momentum and self-belief," he said.

The former South African captain also backed skipper Harbhajan Singh to be back among wickets.

High standards

"Harbhajan sets very high standards for himself and his performance hasn't been that bad. Obviously, he hasn't got a lot wickets but that is not something we are worried about," Pollock said.

Sri Lankan paceman Lasith Malinga has joined the squad after injury lay-off but Pollock said  they have left the decision to the bowler.

"Lasith knows his body best. He will know how he feels after bowling today. He will take a call on his availability (for tomorrow's match)," he said.

Daredevils coach Eric Simmons said his team will need to work out a strategy to curb Sachin Tendulkar,.

"Sachin (Tendulkar) is back and that makes a difference. They (Mumbai Indians) are coming off a good win and we need to be on guard," Simmons said.

Simmons said the Daredevils would draw confidence from their win against Mumbai Indians when they had bowled them out for a score of less than 100. “We had a good win against them last time. We will take the positives from that game," Simmons said.
