The life of a warrior comes alive on stage

Last Updated 27 April 2012, 14:05 IST

The play ‘The Dreams of Tipu Sultan’ will be staged from May 4 to May 20 at Jagriti, Whitefield.

The play depicts the man, the statesman, the husband, the father and the son who dreamed of ousting the British from these lands 150 years before it actually happened.

The figure of Tipu Sultan has continued to dominate Indian and British imagination for over two centuries, as the endless flow of scholarly works, ballads, plays and novels about his tempestuous life and tragic end testifies.

‘The Dreams of Tipu Sultan’ examines the inner life of this warrior, political visionary, and dreamer.

The story follows the last days as well as the historic moments in the life of Tipu Sultan, the ‘Tiger of Mysore’, through the eyes of an Indian court historian and a British Oriental scholar.

Abhijit Shetty plays Tipu along with other members of the cast, Jagdish Raja, Sanjay Iyer, Roy Sinai, Harish Sheshadri, Kanchan Bhattacharya and Vivek Madan in this revival of a play directed by Arundhati Raja.

The play will be staged from Tuesday to Saturday at 8 pm and Sundays at 3 pm and 6.30 pm at Jagriti.

Tickets are available at www.bookmyshow.com or Jagriti box office (41242879).
