Craft-based programmes on gadgets and remote-operated toys have become an integral part of two-year-old preschoolers’ lives in Delhi with preschools banking on technology to create a better learning environment.

The use of technology at this level is only expected to expand as teachers have started using a wide range of software and applications to promote interactive learning experiences for toddlers.

Digital learning aids like interactive text books, educational electronic games and white boards are the new ways of teaching in preschools. Digital storytelling, digital colouring and mathematics have become a common phenomenon.

Almost every preschool functioning under a brand name has a multimedia classroom. For instance, EuroKids has replaced their flashcards with interactive touch screens. “We observed an increased awareness among children and eagerness to learn,” said the teaching staff at EuroKids in Delhi.

Anita Madan, curriculum development head, EuroKids said, “Most of the classes have smart boards loaded with educational software. While learning computers, children build a positive attitude towards technology.”

Other play group owners believe that preschoolers are surrounded by technology and it is likely to become an important part of their lives.

“Technology needs to be part of a classroom if learning needs to be successful in the near future,” said Amol Arora, vice chairman and managing director of Shemrock and Shemford group of schools.

However, teachers and school owners believe that lack of quality content acts as a huge barrier.
