Last Updated 03 May 2012, 16:59 IST

Taking serious note of the unauthorised contract carriage buses plying on the road near KSRTC bus shelter, where parking of vehicles has been prohibited, thus causing inconvenience to pedestrians and commuters, Puttur Division KSRTC Samyukta Horata Samiti has decided to stop the unauthorised buses in front of the bus shelter and stage protest.

The Samiti members have said that if the authorities concerned fail to stop the plying of buses on these routes within a week, then the stir will be staged on May 14.

Rasthe Sarige Mazdoor Sanghagala Okkuta State Secretary Shantharam Vitla informed about the same in a press meet on Thursday.

“The contract carriage vehicles are functioning in violation of the licensing conditions laid down by State Road Transport Authority, High Court Order and the Circular of the District Magistrate.

The police and the Road Transport Officers who should have had taken action against the same are remaining tight-lipped about the same,” he said adding that though parking has been prohibited near Gandhi Mantap and Yelthimar building, near KSRTC bus shelter, the contract carriage buses stop at these areas to let the passenger board and alight from the bus, thus causing lot of problems.

“If the authorities concerned do not initiate action within a week, then we will stop the contract carriage vehicles on May 14,” he said.

Shortage of staff

Dalit Sangharsha Samiti District Convener P Keshava said that KSRTC Mangalore division is facing acute shortage of staff.

He suggested that the recruitment of staff to KSRTC must happen at the divisional level.
