Water management is new DC's priority

First words: Vishwanath directs officers to deal with crisis immediately

The new Deputy Commissioner of Kolar, D S Vishwanath, took charge on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after assuming his new office, Vishwanath said his first priority would be the management of water resources in the district and he would soon chalk out an action plan in this regard after holding a meeting with the officers concerned.

Reasons for drought

“The district has been receiving steady rainfall every year. In spite of this, there is a drought situation. I will hold a meeting with the officers to discuss the reasons for the present situation and draw out an action plan accordingly,” said Vishwanath.

While saying that responding to the problems of people was his duty, Vishwanath said: “Some problems have immediate solutions, but some problems are more complicated.

But if one’s tries hard enough, there is a solution to every problem.”

Normal process

He also added that transfers were a part of government service and he was mentally prepared to work in the district.

Vishwanath held his first meeting with various district level officers on Thursday afternoon.

The Deputy Commissioner discussed the drinking water problem and availability of fodder in the district and collected all the information available on it.

Immediate action

Vishwanath directed the officers to act swiftly in dealing with drinking water crisis in the district.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P Rajendra Cholan, District Superintendent of Police Dr Ramniwas Sepat, Additional Deputy Commissioner R S Peddappayya, Assistant Commissioner Ayesha Parveen and other district-level officers were present at the meeting.

Profile of D S Vishwanath 

A 1982-batch KAS officer, Vishwanath began his career in public service in the Industries and Commerce Department. He holds LLB and MCom degrees.

After working as assistant director, deputy director and joint director in the Department, he was posted as the minister’s personal secretary in the Small and Medium Industries Department. He then served as the personal secretary for the ministers of Primary and Secondary Education and IT&BT departments. He was later appointed as the managing director of Lidkar and later, Deputy Commissioner of Bagalkot.

Vishwanath was promoted to the IAS in 2003. Before being posted as Kolar’s DC, he was the managing director of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Board.Incidentally, Vishwanath is a writer and has authored several books in Kannada.
