'Metro projects will see huge investment'

Speaking to reporters at the BEML complex here, he said with eight more cities coming under the mass transport system, more investment would be seen in Metro projects across the country.

   “Rs 80,000 crore has so far either been invested or committed to ongoing metro rail projects. We could see investment of Rs 2 lakh crore being made in metro systems in next 10 years," he said.

Sreedharan said besides Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai, Metro projects will also be launched in Pune, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana, Kochi, Indore and Chandigarh. “BEML would have a greater say in metro related projects as its R & D centre is being established here, which would bring down indigenisation costs” Sreedharan said.
