Mela of Malnad’s fruits and trees

The Kadamba Organic and Marketing Trust and the Western Ghats Task Force, Forest Department, Horticulture Department, NABA­RD-Bangalore, Horticulture Sciences University, Bagalkot, Agriculture University, Dharwad and Karnataka Biodiversity Board are jointly organising a mela that will showcase the rich diversity of fruits and trees of the Malnad region, come May 11, 12 and 13 at the Totigara Kalyana Mantapa in Sirsi, Uttara Kannada district.

The mela will showcase the many varieties of jackfruit, among other fruits and enable members of the public to have direct interactions with growers. It will also feature exchange of knowledge on folk practices, apart from interaction among growers and scientists. A series of seminars and discussions on the importance of safeguarding wild fruits and trees, the value of jackfruit on a global platform and the management and use of garcinia, etc will also be held on the occasion.
