They are special numbers!

With item numbers proving to be big hits and being performed by mainstream actors, does the term ‘item number’ need a rethink? The film fraternity thinks so.

Singer Sunidhi Chauhan was recently quoted as saying, “People call it an item song but for me, they are special songs. I don’t understand why people call it an item number when big actors are performing it.”

Actress Vidya Balan also felt disheartened when her lavani performance in Ferrari Ki Sawari was termed as an item number.

However, choreographer Remo D’Souza thinks that the term increases the curiosity of the audience.

“Many times, people go and watch a film just because they know there is an item number in it,” he says and adds that the term has become really popular with the masses and renaming it would kill its appeal.
