Patil wraps up two-nation visit

President Pratibha Patil today wrapped up her two nation visit during which she toured Seychelles and South Africa in a visit that helped boost the friendly ties with the two African countries.

The high-point of her visit to South Africa was her discussion with her counterpart Jacob Zuma and the Indo-SA business council meeting attended by her and Zuma.

Patil visited several places associated with Mahatma Gandhi, including the number four cell of the Old Fort prison in Johannesburg where Mahatma Gandhi was kept, the Phoenix settlement founded by Gandhi, as also the Pietermaritzburg railway station where he was thrown out of a all-white compartment in 1893.

In the first leg of her tour, Patil visited Seychelles where she assured the piracy-plagued island republic that India would work unitedly with it on issues of security.

Two MoU's were signed during her visit to Victoria including one which seeks to train the police personnel of the tiny island republic from the piracy.
