Basking in success

A party was thrown to celebrate the success of Jannat 2. The lead actors of the film — Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta — were seen at the bash.

Though Mahesh Bhatt and Randeep Hooda were not physically present at
the event, they were part of the fun too as they interacted with the media via video conferencing. Expressing his wish to do more challenging roles, Emraan said he was really happy with the success of the film. Esha said that Emraan is her lucky charm and that her second film is also with him.

Set to play queen

After Chillar Party, Vikas Bahl is all set to make a chick flick titled ‘Queen’ with Kangana
Ranaut. “I am in the middle of the scripting stage. All I can say is that it is a chick flick
titled ‘Queen’. The pre-production work is going on,” said the director-producer Vikas Bahl.

Kangana Ranaut will play the lead role in the film.  “We have Kangana Ranaut in the film and she plays a girl from Delhi. We are in the middle of casting,” Vikas said.

When asked if ‘Queen’ would be on the lines of Sonam Kapoor-starrer Aisha, which was also a chick film, Vikas said, “I won’t like to say anything at this moment.”

The shooting for ‘Queen’ will begin in August. The film will be produced by Phantom and Viacom 18. Kangana’s kitty is full of sequels.    She is currently working on Krissh 3, Shootout At Wadala, Dedh Ishqiya,  the sequel to Tanu Weds Manu and reportedly, Karan Johar’s untitled project.

‘Items songs are very artistic’

She is making her foray into the Hindi film industry with an item song in  ‘Department’ and Brazilian model-turned-actress Nathalia Kaur feels that item numbers should not be labelled vulgar as they are another way to showcase talent. “I don’t like people calling me an item girl. I think it’s another way of showing talent and skills. I found it very artistic. People might criticise and label you but there is nothing wrong in doing an item number,” said Nathalia. “The word item girl doesn’t hit me. I don’t see it as obscene or vulgar. I find it very artistic,” she added.

Nathalia will be seen dancing to Dan Dan in ‘Department’. Choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, the soundtrack is composed by Dharam Sandeep, Bappi Lahiri and Vikram Nagi. “The song is a part of the movie and contains a lot of meaning. It’s very well-placed in the film. I think, the song gave me a chance to show my talent,” she said.

Directed by Ram Gopal Varma, ‘Department’, starring Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan and Rana Daggubati, will come out on May 18. Nathalia, who started her career with modelling in India, also featured as the Kingfisher Calendar girl. She believes that modelling helped her bag roles in Bollywood films. “I started modelling at the right time and place. And at that time, I met Ram Gopal Varma. We kept in touch. After that, I was selected for Kingfisher Calendar and that really helped me to be known in the industry. Right now I’m doing a film. The item number was just to launch myself in the industry,” she said.

The 21-year-old added, “I’m a trained opera singer. I’m a very artistic person. I like things related to arts, be it anything. I love singing and learnt it for three years but acting is my passion. Singing makes me complete and adds meaning to my life,” she said. Asked whether she wants to sing in the future, she said, “I’ll be singing a song in my next movie under the banner of Ram Gopal Varma.”

Lending an authentic touch

Actor Anupam Kher’s long-delayed film Mr Bhatti On Chutti is ready to finally hit theatres on May 18 and the actor says that Amitabh Bachchan’s cameo has brought authenticity to the film. Amitabh plays Mr Bhatti’s conscience and also his inspiration. “B B Bhatti is a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan and keeps seeking advice from him.

A situation arises in London where Bhatti gets interchanged with the villain. I play the villain also. So he says, ‘I’ll do the work only if Amitabh Bachchan talks to me over the phone’. So Scotland Yard arranges for it,” the 57-year-old said at the music launch of the film.

“Earlier, we got the voice dubbed by Sudesh Bhosle. But at the end of the film, we realised that if Amitabh Bachchan is not in the film, then the film would be incomplete. So I requested Amitji. He has always been kind to me so he accepted it. He did a guest appearance which has brought authenticity to the film,” he added.

Meanwhile, Anupam is sceptical about the film’s release which has already been delayed by more than four years due to financial and censor issues. “The film is releasing on May 18 but even now anything can happen. But I hope that people watch the film and enjoy it,” he said.

Anupam would also be seen shaking a leg in the film. “We didn’t have the money to pay a big heroine for an item number. So I said I’ll do an item number. For someone like me, who doesn’t know how to dance, I felt like Michael Jackson,” said Anupam.
