JOIN USThe CBI will probe the following two major cases which were linked to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and his kin.
Rachenahalli land — The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had acquired from one Gowramma land measuring 1.12 acres in survey no 55/2 Rachenahalli, Bangalore East Taluk, for the formation of Arkavathy Layout in 2004.
The then Housing Minister Krishnaiah Setty took the general power of attorney (GPA) from Gowramma for the entire 1.12 acres. Yeddyurappa’s son B Y Vijayendra and son-in-law Sohan Kumar purchased 0.5 acre (20 guntas) from Setty on March 22, 2006, through GPA for Rs 20 lakh. B Y Raghavendra too purchased another 0.5 acre from Setty for the same amount.
Subsequently, Setty made a representation to the BDA seeking denotification of the entire 1.12 acres of land claiming that compensation had not been paid to Gowramma, the original owner of the land. But the issue was not brought to the purview of the denotification committee.
The then Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa denotified the land. Though the land was already purchased by the relatives of Yeddyurappa, a gazette notification was issued in favour of Gowramma. Then the land was converted from agriculture to non-agriculture purpose. Subsequently, Vijayendra and Sohan Kumar sold their land (0.5 acre) to South West Mining Company (SWMC), a Jindal Group firm, for Rs 10 crore. Raghavendra too sold the 0.5 acre land to the same company for the same amount.
Prerana Trust – Prerana Education Society, set up by the kin of Yeddyurpapa, received donations of Rs 10 crore in two cheques (Rs five crore each) in March 2010 from South West Mining Company, a Jindal Group firm. Interestingly, in 2009-10, SWMC had a net profit (after tax) of just Rs 5.73 crore. Even the Jindal Group of companies had not made such a large donation to any trust or society.
