Youth killed in road mishap; irate public disrupt traffic

The victim, Anil, was on a two-wheeler travelling near the Tin Factory, when he lost balance and fell down. Even as he was lying on the road, he was run over by a truck killing him on the spot.

Enraged by the death of the youth, people who gathered went berserk bringing vehicular movement to a standstill. For more than an hour, people blocked the road and pelted stones at vehicles.

According to police officials, the mob began to pelt stones breaking windshields and began deflating the tyres of vehicles.

Police had to resort to a mild lathicharge to contain the situation and arrested the miscreants to the disturbance caused.

As the situation went out of control, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police have seized the truck and have registered a case at the KR Puram police station.

Police officials also said that the vehicular movement in KR Puram was slow as the speed limit had been restricted to average.

The deceased would have either touched another vehicle or would have lost balance which led to the truck running over him.

The deceased, Anil, was originally from Tumkur. He  worked as a delivery boy with Nupur Industrial Cooperatives located on Jayachamarajendra Road.
