Nemmadi staff to strike work from May 22

Last Updated 13 May 2012, 19:07 IST

The employees of Nemmadi centres across the State will launch an indefinite strike from May 22, demanding the government to absorb them into the Revenue department.

Members of the Karnataka Nemmadi Kendra Employees’ Association at a meeting here on Sunday alleged that their future was at stake as the government had not renewed the contracts with the private companies to run the Kendras.

Though they are merged with the Revenue department and the tahsildars have taken over the additional charge of the Kendras, services of the employees, hired as consulting managers, have not been regularised.

The Association said that they have been working in the Kendras for the past six months and they should be given the status and salary equivalent to that of computer operators in the department.

The strike will continue till the demand is fulfilled, said K S Sharma, president of the Karnataka Daily Wage Employees’ Federation, who chaired the meeting.
