‘Freida is more dominating’

Freida Pinto has more experience in Hollywood with seven films to her credit while her beau Dev Patel has done just three films, including their debut ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Besides, he recently turned 22 while she is 27. So when Dev speaks about her overpowering nature, it doesn’t come as a surprise. He giggles when asked who’s the more dominating of them. “I’d say it’s her,” he says.

And the doting boyfriend is proud of his lady love as her career has shot leaps and bounds in the West.  “She has done amazing stuff. It’s amazing to be behind the scenes looking at her rise. It’s a real pleasure,” he adds.

 The real picture

It is an undisputed fact that sex sells in Bollywood. The success of ‘The Dirty Picture’ confirmed it and many starlets jumping on the bandwagon in an attempt  to repeat the feat only asserts it further. After Vidya Balan played a Southern sex siren in ‘The Dirty Picture’, it is now the turn of item girls Veena Malik and Rakhi Sawant, who will relay the baton.
Veena has agreed to do a Kannada version titled Silk — Sakkath Maga and Rakhi has been signed on to do the Bengali version, that is yet to be named. While Rakhi’s version is a mere remake of its Bollywood counterpart, Veena’s film claims to be a biopic on the Southern sex symbol Silk Smitha.

 The Bachchans reunite

Amitabh Bachchan will be seen with Jaya Bachchan after a long time in his make-up man Deepak Sawant’s Bhojpuri film Ganga Devi and its Hindi version Smt Netaji. The movie stars Dinesh Nirahua Lal and Pakhi Hegde in the lead.

The political film on women’s reservation, which also stars Gulshan Grover and boasts of the first rap song in Bhojpuri language, has been written and directed by Abhishek Chadha, who had directed Amitabh Bachchan in Deepak’s earlier Bhojpuri film Ganga and its Hindi version Gangotri.

Amitabh Bachchan is elated to be part of Ganga Devi and Smt Netaji, especially since the Bhojpuri film industry entered its 50th year in 2012. “After Hindi, it is Bhojpuri which is spoken by the maximum number of people in our country and Bhojpuri film industry is a salient part of the Indian cinema today. It was our former president Dr Rajendra Prasad who had encouraged Bhojpuri films initially. Smt Netaji is based on a story that is rooted in our Indian culture and I am glad that Abhishek Chadha has directed the film with the accent on emotion,” says Amitabh.
