Zilla Panchayat President Shankar Poojary said that there was no shortage of seeds and fertilisers in Udupi district.

Speaking at Karnataka Development Programmes review meeting here, he said about 1,288 tonne fertilisers were available for distribution among the farmers. The fertilisers have already reached cooperative societies.

He said there are enough seeds in the district. He alleged that the farmers are not given enough information on the schemes available in the department. The agriculture department should distribute a handbook on the schemes among the farmers and Gram Panchayats.

The President said that efforts will be made to urge the government to release special grants to repair vented dams in the district. He urged the officials to prepare action plan to construct compound walls of anganwadi centres, hospitals under funds available from MGNREGS.

Poojary said that water is supplied through tankers in those areas which face acute shortage of water. The tankers should be cleaned regularly, he said. Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Zilla Panchayat CEO Prabhakar Sharma, Chief Project officer Savitha Shivanand Kotian and others were present.
