Addressing a press meet here on Saturday, Bhandary said “we read in newspapers that we have been expelled from the party. However, we have not received any intimation from the party high command in this regard so far. We are still with the Congress. We have not involved with any anti-party activities.”

He said: “When Congress party asked us to support the candidature of JD(S) member Ajeej Malar, I opposed it.”

He said: “I supported Sucharitha Shetty in the previous Zilla Panchayat election. Some of the party leaders gave the statement that I have been expelled. Even to this day, I am a member of the Congress.”

“We both have been winning the elections from Panchayat, Town Panchayat, Mandala Panchayat, Co-operative Bank, Town Municipal Council, Zilla Panchayat for the past several years. If they have the determination, let them contest election opposite to us and win the election. We have been working towards the development of the constituencies,” Bhandary and Malli added.  “JD(S) member Ajeej Malar was responsible for the downfall of a Congress Zilla Panchayat President in the past. Unfortunately, DCC President Ramanath Rai had asked Congress Zilla Panchayat members to vote for Azeez Malar once again. Where has the ethics gone? After Rai was elected as DCC President, he started groupism in the party. In fact, Rai himself is responsible for the defeat of the party in several elections in Dakshina Kannada,” he said.  He urged the state leaders to remove Rai as DCC President, so that party comes back to power once again in the district. Malli said those who worked for the party are neglected in the party.
