Islamic meet in Kerala to focus on terrorism

About six lakh believers from various parts of the country and abroad are expected to attend the congregation which falls on the 27th eve of Ramzan. The annual meeting is considered as one of the largest Muslim gatherings in the world after Mecca and Medina in Ramzan. Apart from the main venue, 20 grounds spread across 10 km on either sides of the NH-212 have been set up to accommodate the believers.

Ma’dinu Ssaquafathil Islamiyya chairman Sayyid Ibrahimul Khaleelul Bukhari said this year’s congregation was aimed at spreading consciousness against terrorism. As part of it, the congregation would host a mass pledge where the participants would declare their commitment and solidarity to the fellow citizens, society and nation.

The oath would ask the people to respect other religions and not to associate with any activities that pose a threat to the unity and integrity of the country. “The terrorist activities of a minuscule section among Muslims are bringing a bad image to the entire community. It is the strong opinion of the Ma’din that the reason for terrorism here is the deviations from the spirituality envisioned by Sufi saints like Khwaja Moinduddin Chisti and Nizamuddin Auliya,” the chairman said.

The night-long prayers will begin on 16th afternoon with ifthar meet. The sparkling campus will be illuminated as arrangements are made for taking Namaz and mass prayers. This will be followed by thowba (repentance) and thahaleel. Sayyed Tajul Ulema Abdul Rahiman Al Bukhaari and Sayed Ibrahimul Khaleelul Bukhari will lead the prayers.
