Travel firms asked to pay Rs 5,000

Consumer Courts

The Forum has ordered the travel firms to pay Rs five thousand as compensation to them.

Prasanna Kumar, the complainant and his eight family members had booked a one-day package trip to Tirupati and had paid Rs 8,000 for 10 seats in Sapthagiri Travels and Venkateshwara Travels.

They travelled on Aug 8, 2009 and the two travel agencies which collected extra Rs 50 from them for laddus, luggage charges etc., short-changed them with the facilities they had been promised. They did not even provide accommodation or food as promised and were rude. Finally, they left them in the lurch for returning and vanished.

They had to hire a taxi paying Rs 3,000 to it, to come back to Bangalore. The Forum has ordered them to pay up Rs 5,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Eight consumers cheated

Eight consumers who had paid up various amounts ranging from Rs 65,000 to Rs 1,20,000 to Citi Green Farms (P) Ltd lured by their advertisements promising a farmhouse around Bangalore in 1994-95, were left in the lurch by this firm which vanished and later started another similar business luring more gullible consumers under the name of C G Homes and Developers in small letters in their letters, mentioned as Citi Greens!
When the eight consumers hauled them to this court, they claimed that the consumers were defaulters in not paying up other amounts, and their complaint was barred by time. But Forum President Sri S S Nagarale found them guilty and ordered them to repay money to all eight consumers with costs.

Country club

Two more gullible consumers, Jagadish Malnad and C K Venkatesh became members of Country Club India Ltd. (comp. numbers 694 and 970 of 2009) and waited in vain to get the Millionaire Club Premium, Insurance coverage, a site in Coconut Grove, free air tickets to Goa etc. Finally they complained to this Forum which has ordered Country Club to pay back Rs 2 lakh to one and Rs 1,25,000 to the other complainant with interest at 9 per cent.
