Anti-Posco stir to go on despite changed plan

Last Updated 17 May 2012, 17:39 IST

Local villagers protesting against the Posco’s proposed mega steel project in the coastal Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha have now decided to continue with their ongoing stir despite the South Korean major’s revised plan to set up an 8 million tonne plant in the first phase.

The Posco had signed an MoU with the state government to set up a 12 million tonne per annum project. However, the validity of the MoU which was signed nearly seven years back has expired. The new MoU between the two parties are yet to be inked.

“We are not keen on the revised plan. Our agitation will go on till the Posco project is completely shifted out of here”, said Abhay Sahu, the president of the Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS).
