Gowda trying to mislead farmers, says Yeddyurappa

His statement on farmers plight is sham
Last Updated 13 September 2009, 18:06 IST

Gowda had said that he feels like committing suicide by seeing the plight of farmers. Yeddyurappa, who reacted strongly to this statement, said the concern expressed by Gowda is mere sham.

Gowda had opposed giving loan at 3 per cent to farmers during JD(S)-BJP coalition government, said Yeddyurappa, who was DyCM then.

Yeddyurappa claimed that, it is because of the interest evinced by him that loan at 3 per cent interest was given to farmers, fishermen and weavers.

Politically motivated

“Let Deve Gowda, in his capacity as MP, initiate a debate on the plight of farmers in the Parliament. The former PM can even talk to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, apprise him of the problems faced by farmers and urge him to strengthen the farm sector. His statements of committing suicide are uncalled for and politically motivated,” he said.
Yeddyurappa alleged that the JD(S) and the Congress leaders were behind the attack on Hebbagudi church near Bangalore.

In fact, JD(S) and Congress leaders are trying to derail the special session of State Legislature convened to discuss agriculture and rural development by raising the issues of communal violence and church attacks, he charged.

Referring to Deve Gowda’s letter to Centre on law and order situation in the State and his demand for CBI probe on the church attack in Hebbagudi, the chief minister said he expected positive suggestions from Deve Gowda, who is a veteran leader.
