The State government is fooling the public by giving false promises, accused KPCC General Secretary Ivan D’Souza.

Addressing the gathering at a Youth Congress protest staged in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday, he said that the BJP government had promised free electricity for the farmers and issue of ration cards, etc. However, their promises have remained only on paper and the government has failed to provide basic necessities to the people.

Stating that corruption is at its pinnacle in Karnataka, D’Souza alleged that the State government is doing nothing in this regard. “They have not appointed the Lokayukta yet,” he ridiculed and added that there is no improvement in governance, even after the new chief minister had assumed charge.

Re-iterating that the government has not yet issued the BPL ration cards, D’Souza alleged that the government has failed in handling the situation in drought-hit areas in the state.

When the Youth Congress workers tried to enter the DC office compound to stage dharna in front of taluk office located in DC’s office compound, the police prevented them as they had reportedly not taken permission from the police to stage dharna. As a result, the protesters left the venue, after shouting slogans for some time.
Former Mayor Ashraf, Youth Congress District President Mithun Rai, ZP member N S Kareem, KPCC member Sathish Ballal were present at the protest.

In Udupi

Udupi and Kaup assembly constituency units of the Youth Congress staged a protest in front the Udupi Taluk Office against the State government’s failure to attend public grievances concerning basic infrastructural facilities and securing livelihood securities.

Forwarding a memorandum to the Governor through Tahsildar, Kaup Youth Congress President Abdul Hazeez Hejmadi and Udupi Youth Congress President Yatish Karkera alleged that the government programmes like Sakaala has put public into trouble by unnecessary hassles. The programme is an utter waste and the assurance from the government to eliminate corruption from the government offices by introducing Sakaala is absurd.

The government should take measures to appoint the Lokayukta in the State. It has failed to deliver the benefits under the programmes like Sandhya Suraksha, widow pension and various other pension schemes. Since three and half years, the public have been denied of the benefits of ration, they accused.Hejmadi also urged for immediate disposal of RTC cases pending due to wrong entry of numbers.

Youth Congress leader Kishen Hegde Kolkebailu said stability of the government is under threat owing to the internal turbulences within the BJP. He demanded that the government should be dissolved as government has proved to be impotent in all aspects.

Youth Congress leader Amrith Shenoy alleged that the public are charged with unscientific tariffs. According to Udupi MLA, development is synonymous with widening of roads. The concept of development should be balanced catering to the needs of people. Udupi CMC with an income of more than Rs 40 to 50 crore has failed to provide water to the people in the city, he criticised.
