Home Secy talks to J&K on AFSPA revocation

Union Home Secretary R K Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir discussed revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and matters related to internal security and border management with the Jammu & Kashmir Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

A Raj Bhavan spokesman said that during the one hour meeting with the governor here on Wednesday evening, other issues discussed included revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and matters related to the militants who had exfiltrated to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan for illegal arms training, and are now returning via the Nepal route.

During the meeting, he said, the issue of land and buildings occupied by the Army and other security agencies too were discussed.

“The governor also brought to the notice of the Centre regarding the problems faced by traders in cross-LoC trade that began in December 2008 on a barter basis,” sources said.

Vohra, they added, also briefed the Home secretary about training programmes initiated by the state government for the police personnel to effectively deal with terrorism.
