Last Updated 18 May 2012, 19:13 IST

Passengers of a private airlines’ flight bound for Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport here had a providential escape as the passenger plane tried to land at an under repair runway, but was directed to land on another runway in the last minute on Friday.

A Jet Airways flight from Port Blair at around 3.45 pm tried to land on the out of bounds primary runway, where repair work was on, sources  in the Airport Traffic Control said.

As the Airport Traffic Control noticed that the plane was heading towards the wrong approach, it instructed the pilot to change course and descend on the secondary runway.

The pilot complied with the instruction and landed the plane on the secondary runway, averting any disaster, they said.
