Lokayukta raid on asst teacher's house

Lokayukta sleuths raided the house of an assistant teacher at J P Nagar in the city on Saturday and seized property worth Rs 20 lakh.

Following a complaint about owning property disproportionate to known sources of income, a team led by Dy SP Jayaram conducted the raid. Kempanna is a teacher at Chikkaiahana Chatra in Nanjangud taluk in the district. He is also secretary of State Primary School Teachers Association.

The police swooped on the rented house of the accused teacher at J P Nagar in the city in the morning. During inspection, it came to light that Kempanna owns 16 gunta of land converted into sites in Nanjangud and a house in the same town, besides another house in Vijayapura Layout in Gundlupet. The documents are still being verified, said an officer on condition of anonymity.

Among the seized items ar Rs 10,500 in cash, 100 grams of gold valuables and 1,000 grams of silver articles.

Woman ends life

A woman accused of forcing a girl student to beg in front of a temple here recently, has committed suicide, allegedly by consuming overdose of tablets on Saturday.

Asha, a resident of sixth main in Jayalakshmipuram, is the deceased. She was a divorcee and was staying with her elder sister Tejaswini, also a divorcee. The cause of suicide is learnt to be depression.

Asha was co-accused with her friend Prabhu, for forcing the latter’s school going daughter to beg. Prabhu awarded the punishment of begging to his daughter for not being attentive in her studies. Jayalakshmipuram police had booked both Prabhu and Asha under Juvenile Justice Act.
