Best performing MLAs in Haryana to get Rs 1 lakh award

The Haryana government today announced 'Best Legislator Award' with Rs 1 lakh cash and citation for best perfoming MLAs in the state Assembly.

The award which also includes a replica of Haryana Legislative Assembly Secretariat will be conferred upon a legislator whose performance and contribution is rated to be the best, Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma said here.

A notification issued under rules known as 'The Haryana Best Legislator Award Rules 2012' has come into effect from today, Sharma said.

An 'Award Committee' would be constituted by the Speaker, who will also the chair the committee which will select the best legislator.

The other members of the Committee who shall be nominated by the Speaker including the Chief Minister, Parliamentary Affairs Minister and the Leader of Opposition.

If the committee chooses not to give an award in a particular year, they may recommend accordingly.

The award may be announced at the end of the Budget Session or any other suitable occasion as described by the Speaker, an official spokesman quoting the Speaker said.

A MLA who has received the award once, would not be considered for the award in subsequent years during the remaining term of the Assembly, he said, adding, a Budget provision shall be made by the Haryana Legislative Assembly Secretariat for this purpose.

The committee would give consideration to the legislative experience of the MLA, awareness of national and regional issues, proficiency and fluency of language, presence in the House and his or her fruitful contribution within limitation of time among others, he said.
