BKS Marg parking at CP to open in June

Parking woes for motorists at Connaught Place may soon come to an end as the much-awaited automated multi-level parking at Baba Kharak Singh Marg will be thrown open to public from the first week of June.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) sources said the public trial of the state-of-the-art parking began on Wednesday and it will formally be inaugurated next month.

“NDMC had already given clearance to the parking facility. The independent engineer DIMTS also gave their provisional clearance on Saturday. While trial has been going on for months, the builders have also been advised to open it for public trial. After 10 days of trial, it will be opened in the first week next month,” said a senior NDMC official.

After the Sarojini Nagar automated parking, Baba Kharak Singh Marg parking which is second of its kind has nine floors with the ground and first floors reserved for commercial purpose and the rest for parking.

It has a parking capacity of 1,408 vehicles. However, 150 slots would be reserved for
in-house users.

The automated parking will have car lifts, pallets, computerised control systems which would be operational round the clock.

NDMC sources said efforts to prevent the technical glitches witnessed at the Sarojini Nagar parking delayed its opening.

“The technology used for parking and retrieval of cars is similar to the one used at Sarojini Nagar. Therefore, an extended trial has been conducted at the parking facility,” said an NDMC official.

The officials also said that the developers would be allowed to use the commercial space only after the parking facility is found to be satisfactory. It has been developed on a public-private partnership model by NDMC and major real estate DLF.
