Bidari case back to HC Bench

Bidari case back to HC Bench

Directing senior police officer Shankar Bidari to file objections to the contempt applications, the High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing to Friday.

With the Chief Justice rejecting the application of Shankar Bidari, seeking that he be reappointed the DG&IGP, before some other Bench, the matter was placed before the Division Bench comprising Justice N Kumar and Justice H S Kempanna.

When the matter came up for hearing, the Bench asked Bidari to file objections to the contempt application.

Though the counsel said he was ready with the objections, the Bench adjourned the matter to Friday.

Meanwhile, DG&IGP, A R Infant has sought to initiate suo motu contempt case against Bidari stating that his request that some other Bench should hear the matter amounts to contempt of court.

“The petitioner is seeking transfer of the matter to some other Bench on the grounds that this court is biased and prejudiced. The same amounts to Bench hunting,”the application said.

Earlier, Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen lashed out at Bidari and said: “Bench hunting will demolish the judicial system.”

When Bidari’s counsel said that the petitioner has faith in judicial system, but not in the Bench, the court said: “Such apprehensions are sufficient to damage the judicial system.”
