A reunion turned tragic for four students hailing from Chennai as the car by which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree, killing one of them and injuring three on Thursday morning.

B Vignesh, 17, and S K Vignesh, 18, pursuing engineering in Chennai, and Arun Mozhi, 18, doing his BCom, arrived in Bangalore on Thursday morning to visit Avinash, studying engineering in a Bangalore college.

The three got down at Madivala and were proceeding to Avinash’s house at Kadubisilahalli in his father’s car. Avinash was at the wheel. But tragedy struck when Avinash lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road near the military camp at Ibbalur.

He rammed the car into a tree and S K Vignesh, who was in the rear seat, sustained severe head injuries. He died on the way to hospital.

While Avinash escaped unhurt, B Vignesh and Arun Mozhi are being treated for minor injuries at a private hospital.

Vignesh’s father S Karthikeyan, a machine tools manufacturer, and the parents of the other two boys, have rushed to the City.

Autopsy on S K Vignesh’s body was conducted at St John’s Hospital.

The four were high school classmates at Chinmaya Vidyamandir in Chennai. Avinash and his family moved to Bangalore a year ago as his father Swaminathan, working with Tata Motors, was transferred to the City.

Avinash is a student of first year engineering at New Horizon College of Engineering in Panattur.
