Town Municipal Council member Ramesh alleged that the Bescom had installed a single-phase transformer to the borewell in the village. It also provided connection to a private borewell from the same transformer as a result of which the transformer burnt out. Moreover, authorities have displayed negligence in not repairing the transformer even after three days. He warned of lodging a complaint with higher officers if power connection was provided to any private borewell from the said transformer. There has been drinking water supply for the last three days.
Lakshmamma, a resident, said that she earns livelihood from coolie work and had to forego her day’s earning to take part in the protest. Bescom Assistant Engineer Nagaraj clarified that the transformer could not be repaired as the office was closed for two days. The authorities immediately swung into action for installing new transformer following which the villagers withdrew their protest.
