Rajasthan minister lands in beer row

Desperately looking for some issues to corner Gehlot government, Rajasthan BJP has got a chance to hit the tourism minister. Tourism minister Bina Kak, a politician and actress, who has acted in a couple of Bollywood movies has come under a cloud over her presence at the show at the weekend. The “Men Can Cook” show held at a posh five star hotel in Jaipur had some of the celebrity men like the CEO of Mahindra  World City and chairperson of World Trade Park, architect Anoop Bartaria displaying their culinary skills.

The state BJP mahila morcha and Students Federation of India (SFI), state unit staged protests in the city on Monday demanding tourism minister’s resignation. “What the Congress government preaches, it doesn’t practice,” BJP Mahila Morcha president, Suman Sharma said.

On the one hand, Congress government woos people with its anti-liquor policy and reducing liquor outlets, on the other  hand its ministers grace functions sponsored by liquor companies. Doesn’t it reflect their dual standards, she asked.

The Congress has so far not reacted to BJP’s criticism. Party spokesperson Satyendra Raghav said in his opinion, the minister has not done anything like promoting liquor. However, Gehlot government firmly believes in its anti-liquor policy and all the Congress ministers and party office bearers are expected to abide by it, he added.

The Tourism minister, who was in Kota on Monday told Deccan Herald that she happened to be at the event “by chance” since some of her friends were participating in the “Men Can Cook” show.
