Tight security forJairam's Odisha visit

Security has been tightened throughout the  Malkangiri district of Odisha in view of the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh’s two-day visit to the backward Naxal-hit district which is scheduled to begin from Monday.

While this will be Ramesh’s maiden trip to one of the two worst Maoists’ affected districts of the country; the other one being Sukna in Chhattisgarh.

Ramesh’s visit to the backward district is significant in view of his recent announcement regarding the Union government’s plan for a special development package for Malkangiri and Sukna.

If government sources are to be believed, the Union minister may also visit Sukna on Monday. where the Maoists had recently abducted the Sukna district collector Alex Paul Menon.

Significantly, the Naxals operating in the district have given a bundh call in two local areas of Balimela and Kalimela on Monday.

In view of the Union minister’s high profile visit and the two bundhs called, the BSF personnel and the jawans of the Special Operation Group (SOG), an anti-Naxal force of the Odisha police stationed in Malkangiri, have launched a massive combing operation in the district.
