Ten train robbers arrested

Briefing newspersons in this connection on Monday, DIG of GRP, Ramesh Harihar said that the stolen items were worth Rs 28,35,155. “Gold and silver jewellery, laptops, digital cameras and motorbikes were recovered from the robbers.” Most of them hailed from Trichy and Salem districts of Tamil Nadu.

The biggest seizure was from Amarnath and Raja, who hail from Salem. “Gold weighing 10 kgs, valued at Rs 14 lakh were seized from them recently,” said Superintendent of GRP, Dr D G Rajappa.

The most recent incident took place on Sunday, when silver weighing 10 kgs were seized from a duo who landed in the City station.

“They did not have any documents for the silver they had with them.”
Altogether seven laptops and two digital cameras were recovered from five members of the infamous Ramji Nagar settlement in Trichy in a recent incident. Two women, Bhuvana and Bharathi, had stolen 150 grams of gold by befriending women passengers.

According to the Superintendent of GRP, the recoveries were made in 43 out of a total of 156 cases registered with the GRP all over the State during the period. “A sum of Rs 36,19,499 is the loss suffered by people in different thefts and 78 per cent of the amount has been recovered with the arrest of the individuals.”

The items were displayed at the office of the Superintendent of Railways near the City Station on Monday. “After seeking permission from the court, some of the recovered items have been distributed to the complainants,” the DIG added.
