The Koppal ZP on Thursday suspended Mallikarjun Khemappa Chavan, one of the accused in the murder of Dandeli Assistant Conservator of Forests Madan Nayak.

Chavan is the Veterinary Inspector at the Hiremannapur Veterinary Hospital. An order to this effect was issued by ZP Chief Executive Officer S Rajaram.

Chawan, who is in a judicial custody since May 18, was subjected to departmental inquiry and his suspension orders were issued with effect from May 18.

ACF Madan Nayak was killed on May 6, at the crocodile park in Dandeli and Chavan was named as one of the accused in the case.

Though, Chavan was arrested on May 18, the FIR copy reached the deputy director of Animal Husbandry only on May 26. The ZP CEO issued suspension orders, after he received a recommendation letter in this regard from the deputy director. Hence, there was a delay in suspending the officer, sources said.

It may be recalled that Chavan, who was present at the spot when the incident occurred on May 6, had signed in the attendance register on May 6, 7 to show that he was actually at the Chalageri Veterinary Hospital, where he was deputed. But the register was later seized by the officials.
