Guard crushed to death during morning walk

He was dragged 20 metres by speeding car

A security guard was crushed to death by a speeding car in south Delhi’s Saket on Thursday morning, police said.

Sant Ram, a private guard posted at the Pushp Vihar office of public works department, stayed there itself along with his friend Om Prakash. Sant Ram and Om Prakash were out on a morning walk when the incident took place around 5.30 am.

“While coming out of his office, Sant noticed that a grill on the road divider was broken. When he went to check it, a car coming from Mehrauli side hit him,” a police official said.He died on the spot after being crushed under its wheels.

Om Prakash claimed that the car driver was speeding and driving recklessly. He also alleged that Sant was dragged under the vehicle for about 20 metres. “His body was later taken to AIIMS Hospital after a forensic team inspected the spot,” the official added.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered against unknown person at Saket police station. “We have identified the owner of the car on the basis of the number noted down by Om Prakash,” the official said.

Sant’s body will be handed over to his family after a post-mortem. 

Scooterist injured

A 42-year-old man was injured when the scooter he was riding was rammed from behind by a speeding car in front of the residence of Jyotiraditya Scindia, union minister of state for commerce and industries, late on Wednesday night.

George Fernandes of Moti Bagh E-Block who works as a peon at the union finance ministry, was returning home from his office at Lok Nayak Bhavan in Khan Market when the accident took place at around 10.30 pm on Safdarjung Road. 

“After receiving the information, a police control room vehicle rushed to the spot and took him to Safdarjung Hospital. His condition is said to be out of danger,” an official said. A case has been registered at Tughlaq Road police station.
