Bangalore Agarwal Bhavan’ on Old Airport Road opened only a few months ago but it has, in a short time, managed to build up a loyal customer base.

The small eatery stocks authentic stuff that is not too sweet or spicy. The joint tries to recreate the taste of Mumbai in Bangalore.

Evenings are crowded and you would have to elbow your way through to place your order. Office-goers, college kids and families hop in for a quick something, during the late hours. The place is owned by Sunil Jain, who says the shop opens by 8.30 am and closes at 10 pm.

It’s the perfect place for a quick snack such as pav bhaji, kachori, sev puri, bhel puri, dahi vada and vada pav.

If you think you have had too much spicy stuff, then you could top it off with something sweet like the ladoo. The dry fruit ladoo comes with all kinds of dry fruits crushed in.

The malai items are a treat in themselves, for these are fresh. The anjeer pan is made from fresh anjeer and chandrakala is stuffed with kova and is pretty popular with the customers.

“We don’t keep any malai item for the next day. The vada pav is fried only when an order is placed. The chaat items are custom-made according to the requirement. We make it in such a way that the khatta and meetha blend perfectly and most North Indians prefer it spicy,” he informs

Sunil informs that the vegetables are fresh and nothing is cut and stocked for too long. In addition to dishing out fresh, tasty knick-knacks, Sunil hasn’t forgotten to market his products well.

He has kept the prices reasonable. “Pick any chaat item for Rs 25, unlimited pani puri for Rs 29, mini samosa pav for Rs 15 while pav bhaji comes at Rs 45. “This offer will be on for a while.

More than making profit, I want people to come and try out our dishes. People must like what we have to offer,” explains Sunil.

The regulars vouch for the taste of the place and say that it is hygienic.

Radhika and her friend Sharadhi come here quite often, “We come here for the vada pav. It is tasty and easy on the pocket,” says Radhika.

Sharadi pitches in, “the chaats are quite filling. It’s perfect for two.” Naditha, who is holidaying in the City, says, “I am a chaat person and this is my first visit here. The place is crowded, so I assumed it must be a good place.”

‘Bangalore Agarwal Bhavan’ is located at No.10, Anjaneya Complex, Old Airport Road, near Manipal Hospital. For details, call 9379912345.
